Frequently asked questions

Choosing a course and study method

1. Can I study in a classroom?

Yes. Aurora offers classroom-based training for selected courses at our Gold Coast, Toowoomba and Townsville campuses. Delivery options and attendance requirements vary by course, so check the relevant course page for current information.

2. Can I study online?

Online or external study is available for selected courses. Some courses still require classroom attendance, practical assessments, workplace observations or vocational placement. Check the delivery information and course requirements on the course page before enrolling

3. Where are Aurora's campuses?

Aurora has campuses in Robina on the Gold Coast, Toowoomba City and Cranbrook in Townsville. Available courses and classroom schedules vary by location.

4. When can I start my course?

Start dates vary by course, campus and delivery method. Some courses have scheduled classroom intakes, while external or workplace-based courses may have different commencement arrangements.

5. How long does a Certificate III take to complete?

Duration varies by qualification and delivery method. Check the relevant course page for the expected duration. Your training plan will show your timetable, assessment deadlines and expected completion date.

Fees and Queensland funding

6. How much will my course cost?

Course costs depend on the qualification, delivery method and whether you are eligible for government-subsidised training. Check the relevant course page for current fee information. Additional administrative charges may apply in some circumstances.

7. What is Career Start funding, and am I eligible?

Career Start is a Queensland Government program that subsidises eligible entry-level training, including selected Certificate III qualifications, apprenticeships and traineeships. Eligibility depends on factors including where you live, residency status, current enrolment and previous qualifications. Exceptions and course-specific requirements may apply. Aurora will confirm your eligibility before enrolment.

8. What is Career Boost funding, and am I eligible?

Career Boost subsidises selected Certificate IV, diploma and advanced diploma qualifications, higher-level apprenticeships and traineeships, and eligible skill sets. Eligibility depends on factors including age, school status, where you live, residency status, current enrolment and previous qualifications. Different rules apply to skill sets and employment-based training. Aurora will confirm your eligibility before enrolment.

9. Are payment plans available?

Payment arrangements may be available for eligible fee-for-service students. The deposit, instalments, due dates and any applicable administration charges depend on the course and agreed arrangement. Aurora will provide the full fee and payment information before enrolment.

Prior learning and credit

10. Can my existing skills and experience count through Recognition of Prior Learning?

Possibly. Recognition of Prior Learning, or RPL, assesses skills and knowledge gained through paid work, volunteering, previous training and other relevant experience. Evidence may include workplace documents, interviews, demonstrations or practical assessments. An assessor will determine whether your evidence meets the requirements of the relevant units.

11. Can I receive credit for units I have already completed?

You may receive a credit transfer for an equivalent unit previously completed with an Australian RTO or another authorised issuing organisation. Aurora will need to authenticate your qualification, Statement of Attainment or VET transcript. Credit transfer is different from RPL, which assesses skills and experience not already demonstrated by an equivalent completed unit.

Placement and employment

12. Will Aurora arrange my Individual Support placement?

Aurora may assist students who cannot arrange a suitable vocational placement themselves, but a particular workplace or location cannot be guaranteed. Certificate III in Individual Support students must complete 120 hours of vocational placement. Before placement, you may need to provide a police check, relevant worker screening or cards, first aid evidence and vaccinations required by the workplace.

13. Does Aurora provide employment assistance after I finish?

Aurora does not guarantee employment or operate as a recruitment agency. During your training, your trainer may provide general industry guidance and help you understand possible career pathways. Students remain responsible for applying for positions and meeting employer requirements.

14. Will I need a police check or worker screening clearance?

Not every Aurora course requires a police check. However, courses involving vocational placement or work with children, older people or people with disability may require a police check and other screening before placement. Requirements can include a Blue Card, NDIS Worker Screening Clearance or other evidence specified by the
placement provider.

15. How do I obtain the correct police check for placement?

Check with Aurora or your placement coordinator before applying so you request the correct check for its intended purpose. A student completing compulsory unpaid vocational placement may qualify for a volunteer check, but the check type and acceptable issue date depend on the placement provider. Apply through an Australian police agency or an ACIC-accredited body. Fees vary by provider.

Online study and learning resources

16. What technology and resources do I need for online study?

You will need reliable internet access, an active email address and regular access to a computer or laptop. Your device should have a current web browser and be able to open common document, audio and video formats. Some assessments may require a camera, microphone, video call or file upload. Depending on the course, you may also need access to a suitable workplace, practical equipment or scheduled assessments.

17. Can I study using a phone or tablet?

You may be able to read some learning material or complete simple activities on a phone or tablet, but Aurora recommends regular access to a computer or laptop. Assessments involving document preparation, file uploads, video, online meetings or specialist formatting may not work well on a mobile device.

18. Can I complete my course using printed learning materials?

Aurora’s learning and assessment materials are generally provided through its online learning platform. Printed or paper-based delivery is not normally offered. Contact Aurora before enrolling if you have accessibility needs or require reasonable adjustments.

Enrolment and course administration

19. How will I know that my enrolment is confirmed?

Once Aurora has received and processed all required enrolment information, you will receive a confirmation email. It will include course information, your training plan and instructions for accessing your learning materials. If information, identification, eligibility evidence or payment is still required, Aurora will contact you.

20. Can I request an assessment or course extension?

You can request an extension by contacting your trainer as early as possible. Approval is not automatic and will depend on your circumstances, course requirements, funding or training-contract conditions and the length of extension requested. Fees may apply in some circumstances.

21. Can I continue studying if I move interstate?

Possibly. Your options depend on the course, delivery method, placement requirements, training contract and any government funding attached to your enrolment. Contact Aurora before moving so we can review whether you can continue, change delivery arrangements or need another solution.

22. What is a USI and how do I get one?

A Unique Student Identifier, or USI, is your lifelong education number for nationally recognised training in Australia. You generally need a verified USI before Aurora can issue your qualification or Statement of Attainment. You can create a USI or find an existing one through the official USI website.

Completion and recognition

23. Are Aurora's qualifications nationally recognised?

Aurora’s nationally recognised training qualifications and Statements of Attainment are recognised throughout Australia. This does not automatically provide an occupational licence, registration or employment outcome; additional industry or state requirements may apply

24. When will I receive my qualification or Statement of Attainment?

Once you have completed all training and assessment requirements and paid all agreed fees, Aurora will issue the applicable AQF certification documentation within 30 calendar days.
