How do I apply for a course?

I am an international student, can I study with Aurora?

Aurora Training Institute welcomes international students.

To study with us, you must:

  • Obtain a Student Visa: Apply for an Australian student visa through the Department of Home Affairs.
  • Meet English Language Proficiency: Demonstrate proficiency in English as per the visa requirements.
  • Provide Financial Evidence: Show proof of sufficient funds to cover tuition and living expenses.

What are the entry requirements?

How do I know if I am eligible for Government Funding?

Eligibility for government funding depends on factors such as your residency status, prior qualifications, and the specific course you wish to enrol into.

To determine your eligibility please read the below information:

Certificate 3 Guarantee:

To be eligible for Certificate 3 Guarantee funding, individuals must:

  • be a Queensland resident
  • be aged 15 years or over, and no longer at school (with the exception of VET in Schools students)
  • be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident (including humanitarian entrants), or a temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency
  • not hold, or be enrolled in, a certificate III level or higher qualification (not including qualifications completed at school and foundation skills training).

Higher Level Skills:

To be eligible for the Higher Level Skills program, individuals must:

  • Be aged 15 years or over;
  • Be no longer at school;
  • Permanently reside in Queensland;
  • Be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant), temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency, or a New Zealand citizen; and
  • Not hold, and not be enrolled in, a certificate IV or higher-level qualification, not including qualifications completed at school and foundation skills training.

VET Student Loans

To be an eligible student, individuals must meet ALL of the following criteria.

You are:

  • an Australian citizen, or
  • a qualifying New Zealand citizen, or
  • a permanent humanitarian visa holder, who is usually resident in Australia or
  • a Pacific engagement visa holder who is usually resident in Australia.
  • Your HELP balance (the amount of your HELP loan limit you have left) is more than $0. This means you have enough HELP loan limit remaining for your proposed studies to be covered by the loan. The HELP loan limit is the limit on how much you can borrow. Any borrowing under FEE-HELP, VET FEE-HELP, VET Student Loans and, from 1 January 2020, HECS-HELP will count towards your HELP loan limit.
  • You are enrolled with an approved course provider in an approved course and have enrolled in accordance with the application requirements.
  • You are studying the approved course primarily at a campus in Australia.

Can I apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Credit Transfers (CT)?

Yes. students can apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfers (CTs).

RPL allows you to receive credit for skills and knowledge gained through previous training, work, or life experiences, while CTs provide credit for units of competency completed with another Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

To apply for CTs, you will need to submit your course transcript or Statement of Attainment for verification upon enrolment.

What resources do I need to complete a course with Aurora?

You will need the following resources to complete a course with us:

  • Computer or Laptop.
  • Internet Connection.
  • Email address.
  • Microsoft Office suite (included when you enrol with Aurora) no other software is needed.

You can also study our courses using your phone/iPad/Tablet as all that is required is an internet connection.  However, these devices are not recommended for completing your studies with us as they have limitations.

Do I need a police check, and where can I get one? Should I set it up as a volunteer, and how much does it cost?

You do not need a Police Check to enrol in our courses. However, if your course includes work placement, a Police Check may be required. Many organisations offer Police Checks, and the level needed depends on the specific requirements. For most students, a ‘volunteer’ check is sufficient and can cost between $25 and $35. If you’re unsure contact our office on 1300 936 864, to discuss your specific circumstances.

Are Aurora's courses nationally recognised?

Yes. Aurora’s Certificate and Diploma courses are nationally recognised across Australia.

How do I know if/when my enrolment has been processed?

Once your enrolment has been processed you will receive a Confirmation of Enrolment email.  This email will provide you with information regarding the following:

  • Confirmation of your enrolment details.
  • Your course details, including your trainer’s name and contact information.
  • A copy of your training plan.
  • Details on how to access your online learning material.
  • Your login details for the Microsoft Office suite.

What is a USI and how do I get one?

A USI is a Unique Student Identifier that creates a secure online record of your nationally recognised training that you can access anytime and anywhere. If you do not already have a USI number, you can apply for one using the following website:  http://www.usi.gov.au/Pages/default.aspx

How long does it usually take to receive my certificate?

Once your final unit of competency is achieved, and all requirements pertaining to your qualification are met, your certificate will be issued by email within 28 days.
